Since this was my first trip to Sri Lanka, and I figured traveling by car would be the most efficient way to explore a country about the size of Hokkaido, I decided to book through Sri Lanka Travel Japan.

It was much more expensive than public transportation, but I’m really glad I went with them. Even though I was traveling alone as a woman, I was able to have a very safe, comfortable, and efficient trip. Since tuk-tuks don’t have air conditioning, getting to travel every day in an air-conditioned car was absolutely fantastic.

My driver, Ushan, made every day so much fun—he always took the time to share stories about Sri Lankan history, tell funny anecdotes, and even check in on my well-being! The snacks he recommended were delicious, too. He responds very quickly on LINE and is someone you can really trust (though he only communicates in English).

Apparently, sake makes a good souvenir for Ushan. He mentioned that his two children and his wife love chocolate and strawberries. I hope his dream of owning a Toyota car comes true someday.

I’d love to come back again with friends next time. A huge thank you to Sri Lanka Travel Japan and my driver, Ushan!

Tilina was smiling and waving at us the entire time, from the moment he welcomed us to the moment he saw us off, and thanks to him, we were able to enjoy ourselves from start to finish. I’m also grateful for everything he did—from making suggestions tailored to our requests to guiding us through the temples. The car was always spotless, no matter when we rode in it; he clearly took such good care of it that it made us want to treat it with the same care. Since this was our honeymoon, we decided to charter a taxi for six days. Since we’d be spending so much time together, I was really hoping the driver would be a nice person. I was surprised when we arrived in Sri Lanka and were told that our original driver was feeling unwell and would be replaced, but the new driver was incredibly thoughtful and had a great sense of humor—it made for a wonderful honeymoon! He always arrived on time, made sure we had water, and taught us all sorts of things about Sri Lanka along the way—it was such a fun time.

We realized that traveling in high heat and humidity while carrying suitcases and moving between locations would have been quite challenging without it.

The driver was also very flexible and accommodating to changes in our schedule, which allowed us to enjoy a very自由 and flexible trip.

We felt it was best to clearly specify the places we wanted to visit, including restaurants, in order to make the most of the experience.

The driving was also very safe, and we believe it is comfortable and reassuring even for Japanese travelers.

We had a very comfortable 7-day trip.

Every day, he prepared local snacks for us, and whenever we felt like it during the journey, he would stop and let us try corn, bananas, samosas, and other local foods.

We spent 10 days exploring Bawa architecture with our driver, Ushan. Since the main purpose of the trip was to visit hotels designed by Geoffrey Bawa, our travel distances were not particularly long. Even so, having a dedicated driver provided a great sense of security, and the convenience of being able to leave our luggage in the car during transfers made the service absolutely worthwhile.

Compared to what we heard from others who used different tour companies, the pricing also felt very reasonable and fair.

There are still many places in Sri Lanka we would like to visit, so we hope to return again in the future. When we do, we would definitely like to book again with Sri Lanka Travel Japan.

I traveled solo and compared several websites before booking. This service was about 15,000 yen cheaper for a 3-day arrangement, so I decided to book through Sri Lanka Travel Japan. I requested the driver service for 3 days out of my 5-day stay in Sri Lanka, mainly covering the travel days.

On the first day, I was picked up at my hotel in Negombo. I hadn’t planned the itinerary in detail, as I was changing hotels each day, so I only shared my accommodation and a few places I wanted to stop by. On the first day, the driver helped me design a full plan for the day and explained it clearly.

Sri Lanka is much larger than I expected, and travel times were longer than I had imagined, but I was still able to visit all the places I wanted thanks to the careful planning in advance.

On the first day, we first climbed Sigiriya Rock, then Pidurangala Rock, and afterwards stayed at Heritance Kandalama. We left Negombo at around 11:00 AM, arrived at Sigiriya around 4:00 PM, climbed and descended within about an hour, and then proceeded to Pidurangala Rock.

It was apparently the first time the guide Rasika had done both climbs in a single day, and although it was physically demanding for him, he kindly accompanied me the entire time to ensure my safety. Thanks to him, I was able to climb without getting lost, which I truly appreciated.

We arrived at the hotel around 8:00 PM after a very long day. Despite the long hours of driving, he never complained once and always kept a smile while safely taking me to the hotel.

The next day, we visited Dambulla Cave Temple and then headed to Kandy. On the way, he bought flowers for the temple visit and also helped take care of shoes and explained everything about the temple. I hadn’t prepared much in advance, but he even showed me explanatory YouTube videos in the car, which helped me understand the sites better.

After that, we went to the Temple of the Tooth in Kandy. We stopped for lunch at a restaurant along the way. He asked, “It’s a bit expensive, is that okay?” but it was only about 2,000 yen for two people, so it was actually very reasonable. It was a clean restaurant with proper restroom facilities, so I felt comfortable eating there.

Later, we were taken to a gem shop. However, the prices were slightly higher than another shop inside my hotel, so I decided not to buy anything. Once I said no, there was no pressure at all, so I recommend being clear if you are not interested.

From there, I was driven to my hotel in the Nuwara Eliya region, arriving again around 8:00 PM. It must have been a very tough mountain drive, but he still smiled and said, “Your satisfaction is my happiness,” which I really appreciated.

The next day, he picked me up at 1:00 PM and drove me to Colombo. On the way, we stopped at a supermarket where he recommended some souvenirs.

Throughout the entire trip, he always cared about my physical condition and whether I was hungry, and he prioritized safety at all times, which allowed me to travel with complete peace of mind.

On the final day, Ushan also drove me from the hotel to the airport, and I was happy to be able to talk about the trip with him.

In Colombo, tuk-tuks can sometimes try to overcharge tourists immediately, so I don’t think every Sri Lankan is necessarily always kind—but the drivers from Sri Lanka Travel Japan were truly trustworthy.

I would definitely use this service again when I return to Sri Lanka.

Sri Lanka is a country full of diverse attractions — from majestic mountains and beautiful oceans to wildlife-rich nature, as well as world heritage sites and architectural wonders shaped by a deep history.

What made this trip even more special was the presence of a reliable driver. In addition to guiding us to major highlights such as Sigiriya Rock and tea factories, he generously shared practical advice on how to travel efficiently and reduce costs, even without relying on travel agencies.

One useful tip is that arranging guides locally after arrival can often be cheaper, and the driver can help explain and arrange this. In our case, we had already pre-booked and paid for a tea factory tour before the trip and could not cancel it, but even then, he kindly advised us that on-site arrangements sometimes allow for cheaper or even free guide services.

There are drivers who can communicate in either Japanese or English.

The communication was smooth and thoughtful throughout, and thanks to his careful attention, even a solo female traveler can feel completely safe and comfortable during the journey.

This was truly an outstanding travel partner that I can wholeheartedly recommend.

We never expected the trip to be this enjoyable, and we actually felt sad to leave Sri Lanka 😭

Our driver, Suranga, asked us about our plans for the next day every evening and always arrived exactly on time for pickup.

He planned each day with breaks and meals in mind so that everything felt very comfortable and never tiring. Thanks to that, we were able to enjoy every day without feeling exhausted.

When we didn’t have a fixed plan, he kindly suggested places to visit and took us to beautiful attractions such as a spice garden, a tea factory, and waterfalls ☺️

We traveled with him for 7 days based on an itinerary we planned ourselves. He always arrived on time every day and was very flexible whenever we needed to change the route.

There were so many places we wanted to visit in Sri Lanka, but public transportation would have taken too much time, and it would have been difficult with heavy luggage and traveling with a child. Having a private charter car was extremely convenient.

We were traveling with our 4-year-old son, and Suranga was very helpful—when our child was sleeping or when we went on hikes that were too difficult for a child, he kindly stayed in the car and looked after him, which we truly appreciated.

Although Suranga does not speak Japanese, communication in English was very smooth. While staying at hotels, we could simply message him on LINE with our schedule or pickup time for the next day, and he always followed our requests precisely.

Thanks to this, we were able to travel efficiently and comfortably, and overall it became a very satisfying trip.

If we had one small suggestion, it would be that refueling during our hotel stays or waiting periods before pickups could make the service even more efficient in the future.

We booked a 6-day trip. We only arranged our flights and hotels, and had no specific plan for the rest of the itinerary. However, Ushan suggested a full sightseeing plan, which made our trip very fulfilling.

He also respected our preferences—if there were places or activities we were not interested in, we could easily decline without any pressure, which we really appreciated.

We did stop at some tourist-oriented places such as factories and gardens with souvenir shops attached. These locations often had the cleanest restrooms, so we understood the necessity of including them in the itinerary.

On the other hand, he also took us to local restaurants, liquor stores, and supermarkets, which gave us a nice balance between tourist spots and local experiences.

He was also very familiar with scenic photo spots and took many great pictures for us.

Without booking a private taxi charter, we would not have been able to visit so many places in such a short time.

When we had to change our schedule due to the disaster at the end of November, Ushan kindly sent us photos of the local situation and readily agreed to shorten our itinerary by one day.

He always responded quickly, and being able to communicate with him through LINE before the trip gave us a great sense of reassurance. He even called us about a week before the tour.

The hotel pickup was our first time meeting in person, and our driver, Suranga, arrived early. Since it was raining, he even bought and lent us umbrellas, which was incredibly thoughtful.

During the drive, he explained many things we saw along the way and happily stopped whenever we wanted to take photos.

On the second day, because we had a long driving distance, we ended up skipping lunch. When we started feeling a little hungry, he kindly bought us snacks from a local shop. The Sri Lankan pancakes were especially delicious — they were almost like crepes!

English-speaking drivers are generally more affordable than Japanese-speaking guides, so if you are comfortable communicating in English, we highly recommend choosing an English-speaking driver.

Communication was smooth throughout the trip, and Suranga was always kind, smiling, and thoughtful. At temples, he even bought flower offerings for us.

This trip made us truly feel that Sri Lankan people are incredibly kind, and it made us love Sri Lanka even more.

Thank you very much for your drive on our tour throughout four days. That was the most fascinating trip we have ever have in the South Asia region.  From Colombo through midland Sri Lanka incl. Sigiriya, we have experienced the significant scenery, deep culture and people.

Lastly, I appreciate your hustle coordination back to Colombo because of my wife sickness, you advised a hospital near to our next accomodation. Now she recovered well.

When searching in Japanese for charter taxi services in Sri Lanka, there was very little information available, and the few services we did find were extremely expensive, which made us hesitate. Then we came across Ushan’s website, which offered much more reasonable pricing.

Since it was our first time visiting Sri Lanka, we honestly did not know what or who to trust. Still, we decided to trust our instincts and make a reservation. From the very beginning, communication was smooth, and we already felt that everything would probably be okay.

We spent the first three days in Colombo before starting our tour with Ushan on the fourth day. During those first few days, whenever we mentioned to local taxi drivers that we wanted to go to Sigiriya, several drivers approached us offering prices directly. In the end, the average price they quoted was almost the same as the amount we had agreed upon with Ushan, which reassured us that his pricing was honest and fair.

After meeting Ushan in person, we immediately felt that he was genuinely a very kind and trustworthy person. He communicates clearly when necessary but is never overly talkative, which made us feel relaxed and comfortable. His car was clean, comfortable, and he always drove very safely.

He also helped us when we encountered small troubles during the trip. Whenever we were unsure whether a place we wanted to visit was open, he would kindly call and confirm for us in the local language.

He always arrived on time for our meetings, and knowing that we could contact him anytime through LINE gave us great peace of mind.

Originally, we planned to travel with him for three days, but we enjoyed the experience so much that we extended it to four days. When you spend several days traveling together, choosing a driver you genuinely feel comfortable with becomes very important.

The next time we visit Sri Lanka, we will definitely ask Ushan again.

Before traveling to Sri Lanka, I was a little worried that there might be a cultural gap because Sri Lanka is known for its relaxed atmosphere. However, in the best possible way, my expectations were completely overturned — everything was incredibly well organized and professional!

We arrived late at night the day before, and the driver came to pick us up from a hotel near the airport on the first day. He actually arrived 10 minutes before the scheduled time, which honestly surprised us since we were used to delays being common when traveling abroad.

Shortly after we departed, Ushan also sent us a LINE message asking if everything was okay, which gave us a great sense of reassurance knowing that someone was always there to support us if needed.

For the tour itself, you simply tell them the kind of experiences you want — such as Ayurveda treatments, elephant safaris, spice gardens, etc. — and the driver will take care of arranging and guiding you there.

One thing to note is that the drivers tend to select places that are considered “safe choices” and reliable for international travelers, so some places felt slightly more expensive. However, if you already know exactly where you would like to go, you can simply tell them and they will happily take you there without any problem.

In Sri Lanka, where transportation can sometimes be difficult, having reliable transport plus someone who could communicate and negotiate in Sinhala with local people wherever we went was truly invaluable.

If anyone around me plans to visit Sri Lanka, I would absolutely recommend this service without hesitation!

We were able to communicate with the driver through LINE during the trip. Although WhatsApp is more common in Sri Lanka, they kindly also support LINE for Japanese travelers.

We traveled to Bentota for a 3-day, 2-night trip.

Since we were traveling with small children, we compared several charter taxi services before booking with Sri Lanka Travel Japan because the prices were reasonable and the reviews looked very good.
